The Queen's Chapel
The
Queen's Chapel (1627) was built as a private chapel for the Roman Catholic
Infanta Maria of Spain whom it was anticipated would marry the then Prince
Charles (later King Charles I). However,
the nuptial negotiations broke down and the anticipated betrothal did not
occur. The building was completed for
the French princess Henrietta Maria, who was also a Roman Catholic, whom he did
wed.
During
the 18thC and 19thC the building hosted Lutheran
services.
